making the most of your music.

Once the recording is done, it's neccesary to produce the music, taking the raw material and turning it into a song.
Much like mixing ingredients together to make a meal, each track which is layed brings a new flavour to the music, the trick is to mix these all togother in the right proportions and to present them as a whole song.
The recording technique; how it's recorded, what is recorded and how it is mixed all have a bearing on the finished product.

At Contact Studio, we employ the best production techniques using the best equipment and software there is.
We will always prefer to work with you during the production phase as what happens here will be your finished product.

Producing requires alot of 'Critical listening' which basically means listening to what you have and picking out what is wrong, or potentially wrong with it. when we produce at Contact studio it's important to remember that the finished product has to sound good, not just in the studio, but also when it is played on other peoples equipment, everything from a cheap radio to a 10k sound system.
This is done by adding space and transparency to the mix, what you do hear is as important as what you don't hear.

At Contact Studio we use some of the best technology around.
Good production comes from employing these in the right way.
EQ
Creating space in the mix using advanced para-graphic equilizers helps to give the music a wide transparent feel by making sure everything has it's own place in the frequency range.

GATES
the noise gates we use can isolate even the most crowded channel to give each drum hit it's own unique tambre so that when it's all put together, the whole becomes more than the sum of its parts
COMPRESSION
Possible the most useful mastering tool, in escence making loud thing quieter and quiet thing louder, we can use a range of different compressors to give the music a real punch.

MULTIBAND COMPRESSION
When this system is applied to a whole mix, each section of band width has it's own compression ration and threshold, the end result is that the music comes alive because it has te space to breath. It can also be used to give punch to more contemporary music, the thud of bass drum carefully tuned to the compression ratio and release rate of the music give it that truely forceful sound.
